More crossed fingers, PLEASE!.....

I have been looking for a job since the beginning of the year. I am a registered nurse, and I haven't been "pounding the pavement" or anything....when it comes right down to it I could probably have had a job by now, but I dont because I am picky. If I am going back to work, I have to LOVE what I do...otherwise it is just not worth it. Well, I had this "ideal" job picked out in my head....the right facility, the right unit, the right shift, the right pay....etc. Well last monday, that job posting went up!!!!!!!! I immidiately applied, and yesterday they called me for an interview. I nearly fell out of my chair. Obviously, an interview is in no way a guarantee, but it is a GOOD start!! If this is what is supposed to happen I know it will, but I wish I KNEW!!

Did anyone else here throw thier hat into the ring??

All Girl...Altered Shelf

This week the challenge at the scrappy fun summer contest, we had to alter something. I found a little shelf kit that I picked up at home depot over 3 years ago. It was plain wood, and not put together. I painted it, modge podged the paper on, put it together, and then put on the other embellishments.

It is going to go in my daughters room. I am not sure what will ultimately go on it, but for now I scrapped a cute photo of her when we had just finished fixing her hair for my brothers wedding....she was a flower girl. She sure loves primping!!
Click on the pics for a more detailed view.

Thanks for looking!
PS - I opted out of the contest at MyScrapbookNook. The points are posted for all to see, and it was clear I'd never catch the leaders, so I decided to focus on projects for other contests that I had a better shot at, LOL!!

Chores, anyone?

This was the big challenge for the week at myscrapbooknook.com's contest....here was our challenge....
This is your assignment for the week.

I want you to create 3 pieces.
They must all be alike, but all different. I thought about giving an exact
example- but decided I'd rather see how this was interpreted

Choose a
theme for your week. Choose 3 different projects to follow that theme. The top 5
will get an extra 25 points this week. Everyone else gets 5 points.

The
top 5 will be judged not only on the awesomeness of the projects, but on how the
projects were varied, but still contained a single unifying theme
.
Oh my goodness!! What started out as a challenge that I NEVER thought I'd meet, has turned into something PERFECT, useful and much NEEDED for my family and my life right now!!! I am so excited!

I chose the theme of CHORES!!

My first item is an altered clipboard. This clipboard will hang in the kitchen on the side of the pantry. The kids will come here to get their chore assignments (they'll be hanging at the bottom of the clipboard - you'll see in a second). Hanging in the clip part of the clipboard will be a progress chart that will get tossed at the end of each week. Once the chores for the day are done, they get a sticker on the progress chart. At the end of the week, rewards will be given out based on how many stickers were recieved. Then I'll put up a new chart for the new week.

My next item are the chore cards. I got some sturdy plastic baseball card holders and scrapped "mini-layouts" to go inside each one. The inserts are about 2 3/4 inches by 3 1/2 inches. I used my anywhere hole punch to punch a hole in one corner so they can go on and off of a ring.

I made a name card for each of my children with "personal care" chores on the back. The other cards have the chores listed for each room of the house....the daily responsibilities on one side, and the weekly on the other. Each week, I can simply move the cards from ring to ring depending on the assignments I need to make. The rings are hung at the bottom of the clipboard under their name, but when they are doing chores, they can carry the rings with them, so they do not forget any jobs. The nice thing about this system is that it is really easy to add to it when necessary.

All together
Photobucket
And finally, a layout showing my kids and some of the chores they do and what I hope will be the results of all these efforts. The title is from a song we sing at church with the primary children. The journaling is on a hidden tag (just because there wasn't enough room for it out in the open, LOL)

Thanks for looking (you can click on the images for a better view of the projects). I hope it is understandable....I really tried to grasp the idea that Leah gave us.

7 Days in June.....

This was for the challenges over at myscrapbooknook.com and BOY was this challenging for me!!! The assignment was to make a layout using a photo from each day of the first week in June. It was due less than 24 hours later, so I had to HUSTLE (remember, I am a SLOW scrapper) to bring it together after I had taken the final picture on Saturday.
This layout is kind of unique for me. I almost NEVER use more that 2 or 3 patterned papers at the most on one layout....this one has SEVEN different patterns!! They are all from the same collection, but STILL...I don't usually combine them like that. Also, I don't think I have ever journaled in white....gotta love a good white pen!! With the photos and journaling on so many different levels, I hope it is clear that the journaling for each photo is somewhere on the same column of patterned paper that the photo is on. Does that make sense?
Thanks for looking!

Swimming Lessons.......

Well, I am taking a shot at yet another layout contest series. This one is at scrappyfun.yuku.com. Our first assignment was to make a layout about summer fun. I knew I had LOTS of photos I could use, and ended up with swimming lessons photos from last year. I just love the color combo in this line from Scenic Route!

Show Me the Money Goat...

Another one for the challenges at myscrapbooknook.com. This time we had to do a monochromatic layout.

This is another layout of Grant at our small anual rodeo. He was 5 years old in these pictures. He was running the money goat race. The little kids chase goats with money on them and try to get some. He was so happy with his $4 haul, LOL!

Circular Card Challenge.....

OK....they sprang another surprise challenge on the contestants of the Nook Scrap Off...this challenge it was to make a circular card with a flower, and something else for texture. We only had 12 hours from the time they announced it to complete it. I didnt see it until 2 hours before the deadline, and at that moment I was on my way out the door. When I got home, I had 45 minutes left to complete the challenge....I DID IT! Just under the wire, but I did it....PHEW. Here are the results...

I am a PRINCESS today!....

I am the featured Princess of the day at The Queen Kat Bloggers Club They contacted me and asked if I wanted to be featured, I said YES!! Check it out if you get a chance (even if most of you already know all that stuff about me, LOL!!) Thanks for letting me share!

White Space challenge....

One of the first challenges over at My Scrapbook Nook was to create a layout using white space. I dont really do this much, but I gave it a go!! I really like the feel of the layout that emerged!

These are pics of my oldes DS at a small local rodeo held here annually. This was his first time doing the calf riding. He was 9 years old. I have loved these pictures and the story they tell all by themselves since I took them. This was a perfect challenge to pull them out for. And forgive the scan, everything is straight in real life.

Thanks for lookin!

The Nook Scrapoff has begun!!

I am signed up for a contest series over at www.myscrapbooknook.com call The Nook Scrap Off!! I am jazzed because the challenges will give me good motivation to get to SCRAPPIN!! Wish me luck!
